Maurice Sendak Has Sailed Off In His Private Boat

At 83, and given his recent health, it's not like it was unexpected. And I swear I was fine with this until I wrote the headline.

Because his books creeped me right the hell out as a kid--and because he was a local--I really didn't care for Sendak, at least until January 26, 2012. So thanks for that.

understandable; there's a lot I don't really care for myself, but Sendak is exhibits #1 through 150 for why it should not be called The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art.
