The Washington Post has taken a moment at its parenting blog On Parenting to note the impending demise of skanky mall makeover chain Club Libby Lu. The editors mourn the loss with deep sadness, and the comments are filling up with wistful memories of girlpowering shopping sprees, birthday parties, Hannah Montana tribu--haha, just kidding. Everyone is dancing on the store's waiting corporate grave.
And what about the warning from one commenter, Florida_Mom, of a new threat on the horizon, a local princess makeover outfit in Orlando called Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique? Eh, never heard of it.
Buh-Bye Club Libby Lu [washpost]
It's at Downtown Disney, I think. It gives little girls "princess" makeovers - if princesses wear bright-colored extensions and glittery makeup. Sort of like beauty queen meets rave. At any rate, I think Disney is savvy enough to see the writing on the wall, and not try to expand out into the real world, especially in this economy.
There is nothing wrong with the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in Orlando. It's fun place for little girls to go and dress up like their favorite Disney Princess when they are at Disney World. It's not skanky or slutty like Bratz. The outfits are the same as you'd find in any Disney store.
I personally went there the last time I was in Orlando and I saw nothing wrong with it.
