Pee Wee's Playhouse Christmas Special, Plus Grace Jones

Except for the theatrical release of The Last Emperor and the Iran-Contra hearings, I didn't think I missed anything culture-wise while I was a missionary in Japan in 1988. I didn't realize how wrong I was.

The intro to Pee Wee's Playhouse 1988 Christmas Special, with Laurence Fishburne, the chief from Law & Order, Charo, Oprah, the US Marine Corps backup dancing choir, plus Grace Jones, stopping by on her way to the White House, to sing "The Little Drummer Boy." [youtube]

Yeah, but you had access to Japanese TV. From the short time I spent there, it seemed like every day I would stumble upon programming that served up exuberant overstimulation on par with Pee Wee's Playhouse.
