I think this is from Steinberg's 1954 book, The Passport. Reminds me a bit of Framy, the Japanese square dog on NHK.

I love this too---I have it in Steinberg's 1960 book "The Labyrinth." Could be in both?
Probably all three: I scanned it from The Catalogue (1962).
it would make a great tattoo.
