Power, Kooky Names, To The People In Venezuela

Nixon Moreno, Stalin Gonzalez, Taj-Mahal Sanchez, Elvis Presley Gomez Morillo, Darwin Lenin Jimenez, Hitler Eufemio Mayora.

Apparently during the oil boom of the 1970's, Venezuelan parents discovered the fun of defying the traditional, class-defining, naming system, and began giving their kids exotic or foreign-sounding names. A generation later in the Chavez era, it's a naming free-for-all. Still, the best name in this NYT article--Bujia, which means "Spark Plug"--comes from Honduras. Sorry, Taj, it was really, really close.
