In the middle of the night, when you're trying to coax the kid back to sleep and you're still half-asleep yourself, you will sing anything, anything that comes into your head in a search for the song that does the trick.
The problem: you'll start a song, only to realize you don't remember large chunks of the lyrics.
Depending on your age, many of the songs that come to you mind are from the 1980's. Now, thanks to mi linkito's exhaustive YouTube directory of 80's music videos, you can reclaim this lost decade at your leisure [sic], strengthen your lyrics reflexes, and be better prepared to sing all four verses of Milli Vanilli to your colicky daughter.
But it works the other way, too. I mean, I know every word of "White Lines," but I had no idea there was a video, much less that it was directed by Spike Lee and stars Laurence freakin' Fishburne.

Re "White Lines": Same opening tones as "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"? Which came first?
There are actually two videos for "White Lines". This seems more like a project than a video as the original video aired on MTV many, many times.
[no kidding, it reminded me of detention hall at the Fame HS. -ed.]
And I thought I was the only one with this problem. After a few failed attempts at signing lullabies and getting stuck at the second verse, I've since resorted to singing songs by Ween, which may not be entirely appropriate, but what the hell. At least I know all of the words.
