Yoshitomo Nara T-shirt/Romper Conversion

A kid at the park the other day had a t-shirt-like romper with a mean-looking girl by Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara on the front. I asked her mom about it, but all she knew was that it was a gift from a friend in California. I looked around for a while that night and couldn't find anything, so I let it drop.

But I just found a whole selection of Nara t-shirts at 2K, including the "mean girl" edition from the playground. They're $35, and if you're handy with the sewing machine and the scissors, you can convert the shirt into a nearly unique onesie-like outfit for your kid (I say nearly unique because, hello, I just told you I saw one at the park.)

Why can I find a howto for making papertowels into diaper wipes, but not for making t-shirts into onesies?

There are some slightly cheaper ($30) at Giant Robot
They have had great Nara (and others) stuff off and on for years!

Magically make them into Onesies(R). Gerber would get you...(heh)

You can convert smallish shirts into rompers using hook & loop tape using the instructions on this page (about halfway down).

Instructions for cutting up t-shirts or button-front shirts and using a sewing machine to modify them can be found a book in the Singer Sewing Reference Library (but I don't have the exact title handy right now).

[here, let me look it up. I have my copy right...over...here... heh. but seriously, thanks.-ed.]

Found it! The book is called Quick and Easy Sewing Projects (Singer Sewing Reference Library). ISBN 0865732892. Published in 1993, so you can probably find it at the library or someplace like Alibris.
