I've been dreaming of cool children's books by contemporary artists since before the kid was born. So it's exciting to see Jen DeNike, an artist I've admired and who's work has gotten a lot of exposure lately, is hosting Coloring Book: An Interactive Project at PS1-MoMA in Queens on the afternoon of Sunday, April 16.
Billed as an event for both children and adults, Coloring Book will feature a whole slew of musical performances to accompany the coloring/decoration of a book of images by the Swedish design team Reala. Turns out they're reinterpreting images by the artists Tracy Emin and Edvard Munch.
Macaulay Culkin notwithstanding, I have to say that I would probably have never in a million bajillion years thought of picking these two artists as the inspiration for such a project. Which makes me very interested to see how it turns out.
Coloring Book: An Interactive Project, 2-5 pm, 4/16 at PS1 [ps1.org]
Previously: Marcel Breuer coloring book; Andy Warhol's children's book
You have to check out rxart.net. They have an excellent coloring book they make each year.
[duh, it turns out a longtime friend is on their board. thanks. -ed.]
