DT Friday Freakout: Pregnant Economist Edition

In this special Saturday night edition of the DT Friday Freakout, our heroine, the pregnant economist, actually looks at the data underlying all those hardline proscriptions pregnant ladies get--about alcohol, coffee, sushi, deli meat, weight gain, &c.--and finds that people really need to just chill, because seriously.

For herself, then, Emily Oster: drank wine like a European adult; drank coffee like she basically did before her pregnancy; avoided deli turkey and queso fresco; and worried less about optimum weight gain for herself and more about avoiding the more serious risks of delivering a low birth-weight kid.

As always, your mileage may vary.
