DT Friday Freakout: Sleep Edition

Because you've got enough to freak out about already, Daddy Types collects headlines from the worlds of science, health, and parenting designed to freak you during the week, and compiles them into one big, weekend-ruining list, the DT Friday Freakout:

  • Kids need more sleep, researchers say. Researchers need more sleep research, researchers also say.
  • [birth to thrive]
  • Though a historical survey of sleep recommendations shows that, "The gap between recommended levels of sleep and actual sleep has remained roughly the same." [abstract: pediatrics; via a full round-up at birth to thrive]

  • "Electric Cars Emit Worse Pollutants; Babies Understand Everything" [yahoo via dt sr freakout correspondent sara]

  • Fairy tales are too scary for Kids These Days, better save them for grownups, says a study "survey of 2,000 adults" which was "commissioned to mark the [UK] launch of the hit US drama GRIMM". [telegraph via awl]

  • Rice has arsenic. Brown rice has arsenic. Organic brown rice syrup has arsenic. And some cereal bars and one unnamed organic infant formula have OBRS. Which means they have arsenic. Is it YOUR brand? Researchers didn't say! Perhaps you should stick with HFCS and remove all doubt. [abstract/nih.gov via dt reader anna]
