The Kid Should See This

Obviously, The Kid Should See This, Rion Nakaya's new project, undertaken with her 3-yo kid, to find awesome, educational video and photography online that a kid should see, is just awesome.

Here's just one of the many things the kid should see: Ella Fitzgerald scat singing in 1969 with drummer Ed Thigpen:

That I found out about it last night on Kottke, five years to the day after posting about Sweet Juniper's Ultimate Anthology For Televised Toddler Entertainment, is even more awesome.

I'd hoped that creating Daddy Types would somehow change, if not break the cycle of constant generations of new parents learning, discovering and inventing the same things over and over again. But I'm also coming to think that maybe this sense of invention, of starting from scratch, of the world beginning at this moment, is just part of the nature of becoming a parent. And that maybe that's fine.

And also, it's kind of hilarious that BoingBoing balanced out their The Kid Should See This mention with the announcement of Internet Archive's 3000-hour assemblage of 24/7 TV coverage of September 11th. The Kid Should Not See This.
