Thanks to Micah, who was the first of what he rightly guessed would be a small surge of DT readers who sent along a link to Gothamist's report that John Lennon & Yoko Ono's 1972 Chrysler Station Wagon had sold at auction.
As grateful as I am for the tip, it's the kind of information I really would have loved to hear a month ago, when the rig actually sold--for just fifty-five hundred bucks.
Which, let's face it, is still closer to "crack pipe" than "nice price"; the car's a beater. Apparently the Ono-Lennons and their household staff used it as a daily driver around Manhattan and for schlepping out to the Hamptons.
And when the car needed basic maintenance like replacing the tires or brakes, did they fix'em? Hell no! They brought Yoko a Mercedes catalogue, and she ordered up a 300TD wagon to replace it.
A wagon which I will now try to track down. In advance of a sale.
