This boxy kind of chair is apparently called a lambing chair, on account of all the lambs they have up there in Lancashire and Yorkshire from whence the design came.
This particular boxy chair is kid-sized, and it rocks, and is probably already sold as I type this. This one is stained pine. And here's a craftsman who makes lambing chairs for kids out of pine or oak. The slightly adventurous sawyer, though, could probably make a nice little version with plywood. Note the reinforced rocker edges.
