Most artists just show the prints, but the Dominicana sculptor Belkis Ramirez has regularly exhbited the carved woodblocks that are the first, direct step in the printmaking process.
This appreciation of relief carving may provide some context to this sculpture Ramirez included in an exhibit of a Dominican artist collective, Quinta Pata, at the Centro Cultural de Espana in Lima.
Suddenly, all the 1-in. alphabet blocks we have feel way too small, and the big foam building blocks we have feel way too not wooden and hand-carved enough.
