Seems that at least a few of the hundreds of vintage dollhouses sculptor Rachel Whiteread has been hoarding over the last couple of decades had some furniture in them. And when she could no longer resist its miniature charms, that furniture began wheedling its way into the artist's work. Starting at least as early as 2004.
Which is the date for Secondhand, above, a roughly life-sized [4-in. high] edition made using stereolithography. Whiteread arranged the toys into a pile as if they were on the street in front of a used furniture store.
Then there's this awesome Modern Chess Set, from 2005; Each of the ten sets sports a unique combination of vintage doll furniture and house parts. I wish there were a clearer shot of that box; it looks great, too.
