Arne Jacobsen Seven Chair-Swing Tweaked Out By Camper

arne_jacobsen_camper_swing.jpgAh, Denmark, the land of beautiful modern design, AIDS charity auctions--and no product liability lawsuits. The result of this all-too-rare confluence of factors: a collection of one-of-a-kind ruminations on Arne Jacobsen's classic Series Seven Chair silhouette by designers from across Europe, all set to be auctioned off to raise money for the Danish AIDS Foundation.

The two kiddiest designs are both swings: a folding saddle leather chair from Louis Vuitton [which, frankly, looks awesome, but unusable] and this version from the Spanish firm, Camper, which connects the chair's inverted wire legs to a larger swingset base. Less elegant than LV, maybe, but so much more practical.

And after all, when your starting bids are in the EUR3000 range, isn't practicality the overriding consideration? Bidding starts today and runs through 8:01PM Denmark Standard Time, May 23.
