OK, so the only actual data mentioned in the article is a 10-15% increase in births at the "largest birth clinic in Kassel." The German media is convinced there is a baby boom right now, and that it's related to the glorious monthlong celebrations surrounding the World Cup last summer. And if you disagree, you're basically admitting you didn't get any after the Germany-Poland 1-0 game.
Besides, if a baby boom also leads to reporting like this, I'm all for it:
Last summer's mix of sun, beer and excitement during the football World Cup appears to have produced a massive hormone rush in German bedrooms, gardens and back alleys. [ed: !!] Nine months on, birth clinics across the country that hosted the tournament are reporting a much-needed baby boom.Germany's World Cup Baby Boom [spiegel.de via kottke]...
It remains to be seen whether Germany will get another baby boom in nine months' time after it won the handball World Cup earlier this month.
Wir Deutschen treiben es halt gerne in den Gassen.
[I'm guessing. something to do with back alleys? -ed.]
