A trial just got underway in France for 56 people--including 41 buyer/families--charged in a baby smuggling ring. For around $10,000, French Roma/gypsy families who couldn't qualify for adoption because of their itinerant lifestyle, would buy a baby from Bulgarian Roma women who were brought to France to give birth. [Not to be nitpicky, but it actually sounds like a pregnant Bulgarian woman-smuggling ring.]

The BBC has made reporting on Bulgarian gypsy baby smuggling an annual tradition, though previous stories focused on Greece as the major market. Babies there were/are supposedly selling for 30,000 euros [boys are more]. I guess that tells you the non-Roma markup.
