Yes, This Will Be On The Exam: Children's TV Show Character Names

With the news that J. Lo and M. An [doesn't work?] have named their twins Max and Emme, I think it behooves those who already have kids to list up the names of current children's TV show characters, just so parents-to-be don't get blindsided by an association they may not have been familiar with. Feel free to add to the list in the comments.

Here we go: [show/names]

  • Barney & Friends: Barney, Baby Bop, Riff, BJ
  • Sesame Street[Elmo, Zoe, Abby Cadabby, Aloysius Snuffleupagus]
  • Dragon Tales: Max & Emmy, Enrique, Ord, Lorca, Cassie, Zac & Wheezie
  • Dora the Explorer: Dora, Alicia & Daisy, Boots, Swiper, Backpack, Map
  • Diego the Male Brand Extension of Dora: Diego, Bobo Brothers, Baby Jaguar, Click, Rescue Pack, Linda the Llama]
  • Jack's Big Music Show: Jack, Mary, Mel
  • Angelina Ballerina: Angelina, William, Alice, Priscilla, Penelope, a pile of other British-y names
  • Max & Ruby: Max, Ruby [though this feels a little chicken & egg, frankly]
  • The Hoobs: Iver, Groove, Tula, Roma
  • Blue's Clues: Steve, Joe, Blue, Periwinkle

You forgot Ni Hao, Kai-lan (the Chinese Dora extension) YeYe, Tolee, HoHo and Rintoo

And what about Yo Gabba Gabba? You know that parents in search of a "unique" name will go after Brobee, Plex, Foofa, Muno and Toodee. Not to mention Lance Rock.

Toodee (tootie?) has the double whammie of being from The Facts of Life, correct? just checkin'

[close enough. I think the criteria for the list should be TV character names that you wouldn't know unless you have kids. Which leaves off a whole swath of Muppet names that people grew up with. Tootie is perfect, though, because someone might know it from Facts of Life and *still* want to name their kid that, but the YGG connection would be a surprise. -ed.]

A few more for your list:

Wonderpets: Lenny, Tuck, and MingMing too!
Charlie and Lola: Charlie, Lola, Lotta, Soren, Marv, Morton
    Doodlebops: DeeDee, Rooney, Moe

Backyardigans: Uniqua, Pablo, Tyrone, Tasha, Austin
Sagwa: Sagwa, Sheegwa, Dongwa, Fufu, Bado, Lukdo Huangdo

the Sagwa names aren't too likely, tho

Alicia is really more of a Diego character than Dora. And we're pretty annoyed that they don't make an action figure of her, by the way. Although I suppose it might be creepy to have a cool tween older sister toy.

How about my daughter's favorite characters: Caillou, Rosie, Leo, Clementine, and Sarah!

This seems a stretch, but you never know, somewhere deep in Brooklyn there could be parents-to-be seriously considering "Pilchard".

Bob the Builder: Bob, Wendy, Scoop, Dizzy, Travis, Spud, Pilchard
Thomas and Friends: Thomas, James, Percy, Edward, Henry, Emily, Toby, Gordon

Laura beat me to Yo Gabba Gabba! My 9-month-old son LOVES that show.

Does anyone else want to see "Clifford, the Big Red Dog"'s Cleo run over by a car? :)

If I'd had twins I'd have gone with Trixie and Speed, but I can see how doing that inadvertently would be Awkward! so I'll add Spreitle and Chim-Chim to your list too.

Babar--Celeste, Flora, Pom, Alexander, Isabelle, Arthur, Zephir, Vic, Rataxes
    Peppa Pig: Peppa, George, Chloe
Do you have tweenies in the US? (Be thankful if you don't)--Bella, Jake, Milo, Fizz, Max, Judy, Doodles and Izzles (though the last two are dogs).

SuperWhy - Whyatt, Pig, Red and Princess Pea.

I am loving me some Wordgirl.

Becky, TJ, Violet, Capt. Huggy Face, Tobey, Chuck the Evil Sandwich Making Guy...

We briefly considered naming our second Backpack. But it's just sooooo popular in Park Slope these days.

what about Nouky and Friends. Nouky, lola and pako.
